Bank of America keeps 8 branches in Anaheim, Orange County, 7th of the 50 CA cities in this guide, out of 686 statewide. CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against it, 6,539 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in Anaheim.

Bank of America's footprint in Anaheim

Bank of America has 8 branches on file with the FDIC in Anaheim in Orange County. That is 1.2% of the 686 BoA branches across CA, spread over 39 CA counties in total, and it ranks Anaheim 7th of the 50 CA cities covered in this guide. They sit across 7 different ZIP codes, so "your" branch and the next-nearest one are not necessarily the same errand.

At only 8 locations, in-person options here are thin, and a branch that will not resolve something leaves you with a written escalation rather than a second counter to try. The nearest alternatives in this guide are Los Angeles (42 branches), Irvine (7 branches), Long Beach (5 branches), Garden Grove (5 branches), Santa Ana (4 branches).

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".

How long Bank of America has been in Anaheim

Bank of America's Anaheim footprint is not all one vintage: the oldest office on file dates to 1904, the newest to 2007, 103 years apart. The early end of that range is inherited banking history at 300 S Harbor Blvd (an establishment date follows an office through mergers) rather than Bank of America's own tenure in Anaheim.

Those branches are spread over ZIP codes 92801, 92802, 92804, 92805 and 92806 and 2 more. Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across Anaheim: 300 S Harbor Blvd, 1141 N State College Blvd and 945 S Brookhurst St are separate offices with separate managers, so a refusal at one of them is that counter's answer and not Anaheim's.

Practically, a Anaheim footprint assembled between 1904 and 2007 is an uneven one: an office on the books since 1904 at 300 S Harbor Blvd and one added in 2007 rarely run to the same layout, staffing or counter service, even under one brand and one sign.

Across Anaheim's 7 branch ZIP codes, 92805 holds 2, 92801 holds one, 92802 holds one, 92804 holds one and 92806 holds one, with 2 further ZIP codes holding the rest. 92805 is the one to try first in Anaheim: 2 offices there means a second counter the same afternoon if the first says no, where the 6 single-branch ZIPs give you one attempt and then a written escalation.

Office by office, the FDIC establishment years in Anaheim read 1904, 1958, 1960, 1962, 1970, 1976, 2005, 2007. They spread across 5 decades with no two offices sharing a year, so Anaheim's footprint was assembled piece by piece.

On the FDIC record in Anaheim alongside 300 S Harbor Blvd: 1141 N State College Blvd, 945 S Brookhurst St and 2260 S Harbor Blvd. Name the street in a complaint: "1141 N State College Blvd" survives being passed between departments in a way "my Anaheim branch" does not.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.

What I observed (rewards program)

This is the section that moved my BoA experience from frustration to genuinely suspicious. In my experience, rewards I expected did not credit to my account. I set up auto-redeem AND manually requested redemptions on multiple occasions. Neither path produced a deposit I could see. I contacted support, followed every step, and from my perspective, nothing reached my account.

Rewards were also central to the CFPB's 2023 enforcement order, which cited Bank of America for withholding credit-card rewards. That is the public-record counterpart to what I describe above. A Anaheim customer who believes rewards did not credit has a documented precedent to reference in a complaint, and 37,169 CA filings already sitting in that database.

What CA customers report, and where Anaheim sits in it

Anaheim's 8 branches are 1.2% of the 686 Bank of America branches in CA, the 7th-largest share of the 50 CA cities in this guide. Against that footprint, CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 12,490 since January 2023, 6,539 since January 2025, or about 54 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.

"Mortgage" leads the CA file at 9,553, then "Checking or savings account" at 9,385; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 6,117. None is tagged to Anaheim (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.

Whether 8 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest CA footprints in this guide are Fresno with 10 and Irvine with 7.

The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a Anaheim filing is what you type into it. The Anaheim branches on the FDIC record are 300 S Harbor Blvd, 1141 N State College Blvd, 945 S Brookhurst St and 2260 S Harbor Blvd, and 2 more; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (92801, 92802, 92804, 92805 and 92806 and 2 more), in the narrative box.

Escalating from Anaheim, in order

Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From Anaheim, with 8 branches to work with, it runs like this:

  1. Use a second branch before you escalate anywhere. Anaheim has 8 branches across Orange County, so if one refuses to resolve something, another is the cheapest next step and costs you nothing but the trip.
  2. Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (300 S Harbor Blvd is the oldest on the FDIC record in Anaheim); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up. No Anaheim office entered the FDIC record between 1904 and 1958.
  3. File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 37,169 filings already logged from CA.
  4. File in parallel with California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), which supervises banks operating in Anaheim and carries weight a federal queue does not.
  5. Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: California State Controller: Unclaimed Property.
