Bank of America keeps 2 branches in Visalia, Tulare County, 45th of the 50 CA cities in this guide, out of 686 statewide. CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against it, 6,539 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in Visalia.
Bank of America's footprint in Visalia
Bank of America has 2 branches on file with the FDIC in Visalia in Tulare County. That is 0.3% of the 686 BoA branches across CA, spread over 39 CA counties in total, and it ranks Visalia 45th of the 50 CA cities covered in this guide. They sit across 2 different ZIP codes, so "your" branch and the next-nearest one are not necessarily the same errand.
At only 2 locations, in-person options here are thin, and a branch that will not resolve something leaves you with a written escalation rather than a second counter to try.

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".
How long Bank of America has been in Visalia
Bank of America's Visalia footprint is not all one vintage: the oldest office on file dates to 1921, the newest to 1965, 44 years apart. The early end of that range is inherited banking history at 212 E Main St (an establishment date follows an office through mergers) rather than Bank of America's own tenure in Visalia.
Those branches are spread over ZIP codes 93277 and 93291. Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across Visalia: 212 E Main St and 2400 S Mooney Blvd are separate offices with separate managers, so a refusal at one of them is that counter's answer and not Visalia's.
Practically, a Visalia footprint assembled between 1921 and 1965 is an uneven one: an office on the books since 1921 at 212 E Main St and one added in 1965 rarely run to the same layout, staffing or counter service, even under one brand and one sign.
Across Visalia's 2 branch ZIP codes, 93277 holds one and 93291 holds one. No Visalia ZIP holds more than one office, so every refusal here costs a separate trip across ZIPs rather than a second try down the street.
Office by office, the FDIC establishment years in Visalia read 1921, 1965. They spread across 2 decades with no two offices sharing a year, so Visalia's footprint was assembled piece by piece.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.
What I observed (rewards program)
This is the section that moved my BoA experience from frustration to genuinely suspicious. In my experience, rewards I expected did not credit to my account. I set up auto-redeem AND manually requested redemptions on multiple occasions. Neither path produced a deposit I could see. I contacted support, followed every step, and from my perspective, nothing reached my account.
Rewards were also central to the CFPB's 2023 enforcement order, which cited Bank of America for withholding credit-card rewards. That is the public-record counterpart to what I describe above. A Visalia customer who believes rewards did not credit has a documented precedent to reference in a complaint, and 37,169 CA filings already sitting in that database.
My full account, written exactly as I would describe it to a friend, is at /my-banking-story.
What CA customers report, and where Visalia sits in it
Visalia's 2 branches are 0.3% of the 686 Bank of America branches in CA, the 45th-largest share of the 50 CA cities in this guide. Against that footprint, CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 12,490 since January 2023, 6,539 since January 2025, or about 54 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.
"Mortgage" leads the CA file at 9,553, then "Checking or savings account" at 9,385; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 6,117. None is tagged to Visalia (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.
Whether 2 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest CA footprints in this guide are Victorville with 2 and Fullerton with 1.
The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a Visalia filing is what you type into it. The Visalia branches on the FDIC record are 212 E Main St and 2400 S Mooney Blvd; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (93277 and 93291), in the narrative box.

Subscribe →Escalating from Visalia, in order
Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From Visalia, with 2 branches to work with, it runs like this:
- Do not count on branch escalation. Visalia has only 2 branches, so if that handful does not resolve it, move straight to writing.
- Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (212 E Main St is the oldest on the FDIC record in Visalia); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up. No Visalia office entered the FDIC record between 1921 and 1965.
- File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 37,169 filings already logged from CA.
- File in parallel with California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), which supervises banks operating in Visalia and carries weight a federal queue does not.
- Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: California State Controller: Unclaimed Property.
