Bank of America keeps 2 branches in The Woodlands, Montgomery County, 42nd of the 150 TX cities in this guide, out of 313 statewide. TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against it, 3,180 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in The Woodlands.
Bank of America's footprint in The Woodlands
Bank of America has 2 branches on file with the FDIC in The Woodlands in Montgomery County. That is 0.6% of the 313 BoA branches across TX, spread over 37 TX counties in total, and it ranks The Woodlands 42nd of the 150 TX cities covered in this guide. They sit across 2 different ZIP codes, so "your" branch and the next-nearest one are not necessarily the same errand.
At only 2 locations, in-person options here are thin, and a branch that will not resolve something leaves you with a written escalation rather than a second counter to try. The nearest alternatives in this guide are Houston (48 branches), Katy (8 branches), Spring (5 branches), Sugar Land (4 branches), Cypress (4 branches).

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".
How long Bank of America has been in The Woodlands
Bank of America's The Woodlands footprint is not all one vintage: the oldest office on file dates to 1995, the newest to 2004, 9 years apart. The early end of that range is inherited banking history at 1255 Lake Woodlands Dr (an establishment date follows an office through mergers) rather than Bank of America's own tenure in The Woodlands.
Those branches are spread over ZIP codes 77380 and 77382. Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across The Woodlands: 1255 Lake Woodlands Dr and 6607 Woodlands Pkwy are separate offices with separate managers, so a refusal at one of them is that counter's answer and not The Woodlands's.
Practically, The Woodlands's branches all entering the record between 1995 and 2004 points to consistent formats, so a poor counter experience at 6607 Woodlands Pkwy is more likely to repeat at the next The Woodlands location than to be one bad branch.
Across The Woodlands's 2 branch ZIP codes, 77380 holds one and 77382 holds one. No The Woodlands ZIP holds more than one office, so every refusal here costs a separate trip across ZIPs rather than a second try down the street.
Office by office, the FDIC establishment years in The Woodlands read 1995, 2004. They spread across 2 decades with no two offices sharing a year, so The Woodlands's footprint was assembled piece by piece.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.
What I observed (rewards program)
This is the section that moved my BoA experience from frustration to genuinely suspicious. In my experience, rewards I expected did not credit to my account. I set up auto-redeem AND manually requested redemptions on multiple occasions. Neither path produced a deposit I could see. I contacted support, followed every step, and from my perspective, nothing reached my account.
Rewards were also central to the CFPB's 2023 enforcement order, which cited Bank of America for withholding credit-card rewards. That is the public-record counterpart to what I describe above. A The Woodlands customer who believes rewards did not credit has a documented precedent to reference in a complaint, and 12,923 TX filings already sitting in that database.
My full account, written exactly as I would describe it to a friend, is at /my-banking-story.
What TX customers report, and where The Woodlands sits in it
The Woodlands's 2 branches are 0.6% of the 313 Bank of America branches in TX, the 42nd-largest share of the 150 TX cities in this guide. Against that footprint, TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 5,476 since January 2023, 3,180 since January 2025, or about 41 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.
"Checking or savings account" leads the TX file at 3,946, then "Mortgage" at 2,316; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 2,325. None is tagged to The Woodlands (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.
Whether 2 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest TX footprints in this guide are Rockwall with 2 and Tyler with 2.
The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a The Woodlands filing is what you type into it. The The Woodlands branches on the FDIC record are 1255 Lake Woodlands Dr and 6607 Woodlands Pkwy; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (77380 and 77382), in the narrative box.

Subscribe →Escalating from The Woodlands, in order
Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From The Woodlands, with 2 branches to work with, it runs like this:
- Do not count on branch escalation. The Woodlands has only 2 branches, so if that handful does not resolve it, move straight to writing; the nearest alternatives in this guide are Houston (48 branches), Katy (8 branches).
- Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (1255 Lake Woodlands Dr is the oldest on the FDIC record in The Woodlands); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up. No The Woodlands office entered the FDIC record between 1995 and 2004.
- File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 12,923 filings already logged from TX.
- File in parallel with Texas Department of Banking, which supervises banks operating in The Woodlands and carries weight a federal queue does not.
- Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: Texas Comptroller: ClaimItTexas.
