Bank of America keeps 5 branches in Spring, Montgomery County, 12th of the 150 TX cities in this guide, out of 313 statewide. TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against it, 3,180 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in Spring.

Bank of America's footprint in Spring

Bank of America has 5 branches on file with the FDIC in Spring in Montgomery County. That is 1.6% of the 313 BoA branches across TX, spread over 37 TX counties in total, and it ranks Spring 12th of the 150 TX cities covered in this guide. They sit across 5 different ZIP codes, so "your" branch and the next-nearest one are not necessarily the same errand.

At only 5 locations, in-person options here are thin, and a branch that will not resolve something leaves you with a written escalation rather than a second counter to try. The nearest alternatives in this guide are Houston (48 branches), Katy (8 branches), Sugar Land (4 branches), Cypress (4 branches), Humble (4 branches).

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".

How long Bank of America has been in Spring

Bank of America's Spring footprint is not all one vintage: the oldest office on file dates to 1921, the newest to 2016, 95 years apart. The early end of that range is inherited banking history at 125 Sawdust Rd (an establishment date follows an office through mergers) rather than Bank of America's own tenure in Spring.

Those branches are spread over ZIP codes 77373, 77379, 77380, 77386 and 77388 and crosses 2 counties (Harris and Montgomery). Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across Spring: 125 Sawdust Rd, 140 E Louetta Rd and 5938 Fm 2920 Rd are separate offices with separate managers, so a refusal at one of them is that counter's answer and not Spring's.

Practically, a Spring footprint assembled between 1921 and 2016 is an uneven one: an office on the books since 1921 at 125 Sawdust Rd and one added in 2016 rarely run to the same layout, staffing or counter service, even under one brand and one sign.

Across Spring's 5 branch ZIP codes, 77373 holds one, 77379 holds one, 77380 holds one, 77386 holds one and 77388 holds one. No Spring ZIP holds more than one office, so every refusal here costs a separate trip across ZIPs rather than a second try down the street.

Office by office, the FDIC establishment years in Spring read 1921, 2003, 2003, 2004, 2016. 2003 accounts for 2 of them on its own, an arrival in one transaction, not a build-out.

On the FDIC record in Spring alongside 125 Sawdust Rd: 140 E Louetta Rd, 5938 Fm 2920 Rd and 16807 Stuebner Airline Rd. Name the street in a complaint: "140 E Louetta Rd" survives being passed between departments in a way "my Spring branch" does not.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.

What I observed (rewards program)

This is the section that moved my BoA experience from frustration to genuinely suspicious. In my experience, rewards I expected did not credit to my account. I set up auto-redeem AND manually requested redemptions on multiple occasions. Neither path produced a deposit I could see. I contacted support, followed every step, and from my perspective, nothing reached my account.

Rewards were also central to the CFPB's 2023 enforcement order, which cited Bank of America for withholding credit-card rewards. That is the public-record counterpart to what I describe above. A Spring customer who believes rewards did not credit has a documented precedent to reference in a complaint, and 12,923 TX filings already sitting in that database.

What TX customers report, and where Spring sits in it

Spring's 5 branches are 1.6% of the 313 Bank of America branches in TX, the 12th-largest share of the 150 TX cities in this guide. Against that footprint, TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 5,476 since January 2023, 3,180 since January 2025, or about 41 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.

"Checking or savings account" leads the TX file at 3,946, then "Mortgage" at 2,316; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 2,325. None is tagged to Spring (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.

Whether 5 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest TX footprints in this guide are Irving with 5 and Cypress with 4.

The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a Spring filing is what you type into it. The Spring branches on the FDIC record are 125 Sawdust Rd, 140 E Louetta Rd, 5938 Fm 2920 Rd and 16807 Stuebner Airline Rd, and 1 more; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (77373, 77379, 77380, 77386 and 77388), in the narrative box.

Escalating from Spring, in order

Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From Spring, with 5 branches to work with, it runs like this:

  1. Use a second branch before you escalate anywhere. Spring has 5 branches across Montgomery County, so if one refuses to resolve something, another is the cheapest next step and costs you nothing but the trip.
  2. Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (125 Sawdust Rd is the oldest on the FDIC record in Spring); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up. No Spring office entered the FDIC record between 1921 and 2003.
  3. File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 12,923 filings already logged from TX.
  4. File in parallel with Texas Department of Banking, which supervises banks operating in Spring and carries weight a federal queue does not.
  5. Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: Texas Comptroller: ClaimItTexas.
