Bank of America keeps 22 branches in San Antonio, Bexar County, 3rd of the 150 TX cities in this guide, out of 313 statewide. TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against it, 3,180 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in San Antonio.
Bank of America's footprint in San Antonio
Bank of America has 22 branches on file with the FDIC in San Antonio in Bexar County. That is 7% of the 313 BoA branches across TX, spread over 37 TX counties in total, and it ranks San Antonio 3rd of the 150 TX cities covered in this guide. They sit across 21 different ZIP codes, so "your" branch and the next-nearest one are not necessarily the same errand. One of them is limited-service (drive-through or detached), which is unusual: only 16 of the 1,354 BoA branches across these four states are anything other than full-service brick-and-mortar.
At 22 locations, in-person service is realistic here: notarisation, cashier's cheques, medallion signature guarantees and disputed-transaction paperwork can all be done locally, and if one branch will not resolve something you can simply walk into another. The same is true just outside San Antonio: New Braunfels (1 branch), Schertz (1 branch), Boerne (1 branch); so a refusal here is rarely the end of the in-person route.

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".
How long Bank of America has been in San Antonio
Bank of America's San Antonio footprint is not all one vintage: the oldest office on file dates to 1921, the newest to 2020, 99 years apart. The early end of that range is inherited banking history at 901 Bandera Rd (an establishment date follows an office through mergers) rather than Bank of America's own tenure in San Antonio.
Those branches are spread over ZIP codes 78209, 78211, 78212, 78213 and 78215 and 3 more. Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across San Antonio: 901 Bandera Rd, 3500 San Pedro Ave and 3700 S New Braunfels Ave are separate offices with separate managers, so a refusal at one of them is that counter's answer and not San Antonio's.
Practically, a San Antonio footprint assembled between 1921 and 2020 is an uneven one: an office on the books since 1921 at 901 Bandera Rd and one added in 2020 rarely run to the same layout, staffing or counter service, even under one brand and one sign.
Across San Antonio's 21 branch ZIP codes, 78213 holds 2, 78209 holds one, 78211 holds one, 78212 holds one and 78215 holds one, with 16 further ZIP codes holding the rest. 78213 is the one to try first in San Antonio: 2 offices there means a second counter the same afternoon if the first says no, where the 20 single-branch ZIPs give you one attempt and then a written escalation.
Office by office, the FDIC establishment years in San Antonio read 1921, 1921, 1921, 1921, 1921, 1921, 1954, 1965, and 14 more. 1921 accounts for 6 of them on its own, an arrival in one transaction, not a build-out.
On the FDIC record in San Antonio alongside 901 Bandera Rd: 3500 San Pedro Ave, 3700 S New Braunfels Ave and 8235 State Highway 151. Name the street in a complaint: "3500 San Pedro Ave" survives being passed between departments in a way "my San Antonio branch" does not.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.
What I observed (business accounts)
On business accounts: BoA’s product menu is wide. Business Advantage Fundamentals carries a $16/mo fee waived only with $5,000 average balance or qualifying activity. Wire fees apply at roughly $30 outgoing domestic per BoA’s public schedule. For a small business that wants the cheapest viable account with clean software, software-driven banks like Mercury or Relay match the use case better.
For a San Antonio business, the relevant local fact is 22 branches on file, cash-handling businesses should weigh that against a fully remote alternative before committing.

What TX customers report, and where San Antonio sits in it
San Antonio's 22 branches are 7% of the 313 Bank of America branches in TX, the 3rd-largest share of the 150 TX cities in this guide. Against that footprint, TX consumers have filed 12,923 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 5,476 since January 2023, 3,180 since January 2025, or about 41 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.
"Checking or savings account" leads the TX file at 3,946, then "Mortgage" at 2,316; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 2,325. None is tagged to San Antonio (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.
Whether 22 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest TX footprints in this guide are Dallas with 26 and Austin with 20.
The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a San Antonio filing is what you type into it. The San Antonio branches on the FDIC record are 901 Bandera Rd, 3500 San Pedro Ave, 3700 S New Braunfels Ave and 8235 State Highway 151, and 2 more; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (78209, 78211, 78212, 78213 and 78215 and 3 more), in the narrative box.

Subscribe →Escalating from San Antonio, in order
Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From San Antonio, with 22 branches to work with, it runs like this:
- Use a second branch before you escalate anywhere. San Antonio has 22 branches across Bexar County, so if one refuses to resolve something, another is the cheapest next step and costs you nothing but the trip.
- Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (901 Bandera Rd is the oldest on the FDIC record in San Antonio); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up. No San Antonio office entered the FDIC record between 1921 and 1954.
- File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 12,923 filings already logged from TX.
- File in parallel with Texas Department of Banking, which supervises banks operating in San Antonio and carries weight a federal queue does not.
- Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: Texas Comptroller: ClaimItTexas.
