Bank of America keeps 1 branch in Ontario, San Bernardino County, 49th of the 50 CA cities in this guide, out of 686 statewide. CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against it, 6,539 of them since January 2025. One customer's experience, mine, set beside what the bank measurably looks like in Ontario.

Bank of America's footprint in Ontario

Bank of America has 1 branch on file with the FDIC in Ontario in San Bernardino County. That is 0.1% of the 686 BoA branches across CA, spread over 39 CA counties in total, and it ranks Ontario 49th of the 50 CA cities covered in this guide.

At a single location, in-person options here are thin, and a branch that will not resolve something leaves you with a written escalation rather than a second counter to try. The nearest alternatives in this guide are Riverside (4 branches), Fontana (4 branches), San Bernardino (3 branches), Moreno Valley (3 branches), Rancho Cucamonga (3 branches).

Branch counts are Bank of America locations on file with the FDIC (certificate 3510) under each city label; New York City and its boroughs are counted by FDIC county. Postal city labels do not always match municipal boundaries, so treat a zero as "none on file under this city label".

How long Bank of America has been in Ontario

Every Bank of America office on file in Ontario carries the same FDIC establishment year, 1923. The single branch here entered the FDIC record in that year, which usually marks a single acquisition or a single build-out rather than a footprint grown over decades. The oldest sits at 735 N Euclid Ave.

The whole Ontario footprint sits inside ZIP 91762. Queues, staffing and how much a manager will authorise are not uniform across Ontario, so a refusal at 735 N Euclid Ave is that office's answer rather than the bank's; the next move is a written escalation, not another queue in Ontario.

Practically, Ontario's branches all entering the record between 1923 and 1923 points to consistent formats, so a poor counter experience at 735 N Euclid Ave is more likely to repeat at the next Ontario location than to be one bad branch.

Establishment dates are the FDIC's date of record for each banking office. That date follows the office through mergers and acquisitions, so an early date means a bank branch has operated at that address since then, not that Bank of America itself has been there that long.

What I observed (rewards program)

This is the section that moved my BoA experience from frustration to genuinely suspicious. In my experience, rewards I expected did not credit to my account. I set up auto-redeem AND manually requested redemptions on multiple occasions. Neither path produced a deposit I could see. I contacted support, followed every step, and from my perspective, nothing reached my account.

Rewards were also central to the CFPB's 2023 enforcement order, which cited Bank of America for withholding credit-card rewards. That is the public-record counterpart to what I describe above. A Ontario customer who believes rewards did not credit has a documented precedent to reference in a complaint, and 37,169 CA filings already sitting in that database.

My full account, written exactly as I would describe it to a friend, is at /my-banking-story.

What CA customers report, and where Ontario sits in it

Ontario's 1 branch is 0.1% of the 686 Bank of America branches in CA, the 49th-largest share of the 50 CA cities in this guide. Against that footprint, CA consumers have filed 37,169 CFPB complaints against Bank of America, 12,490 since January 2023, 6,539 since January 2025, or about 54 lifetime filings for every branch the bank runs in the state.

"Mortgage" leads the CA file at 9,553, then "Checking or savings account" at 9,385; the most-reported issue is "Managing an account" at 6,117. None is tagged to Ontario (the CFPB records by state), but a filing of your own, with dates and amounts attached, is what turns one account's problem into a pattern.

Whether 1 is a lot depends on what it sits beside: the nearest CA footprints in this guide are Oceanside with 1 and Pomona with 1.

The file carries no ZIP or city field, so what locates a Ontario filing is what you type into it. The Ontario branches on the FDIC record are 735 N Euclid Ave; name the one you banked at, with its ZIP (91762), in the narrative box.

Escalating from Ontario, in order

Each step produces the evidence the next one expects, so the order matters more than the volume. From Ontario, with 1 branch to work with, it runs like this:

  1. Do not count on branch escalation. Ontario has only 1 branch, so if that one location does not resolve it, move straight to writing; the nearest alternatives in this guide are Riverside (4 branches), Fontana (4 branches).
  2. Get it in writing with the bank first: a secure message is dated and quotable, a phone call is not. Name the office in it (735 N Euclid Ave is the oldest on the FDIC record in Ontario); "my branch" is not a reference anyone can look up.
  3. File with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, free, public, answered on the record, and it joins 37,169 filings already logged from CA.
  4. File in parallel with California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI), which supervises banks operating in Ontario and carries weight a federal queue does not.
  5. Chasing a dormant balance rather than a dispute? Different office: California State Controller: Unclaimed Property.
